Garden City Special Police

Who are the Special Police ?

The Garden City Special Police, under the Police Commissioner’s direction, is comprised of volunteers that assist the Garden City Police with community events, parades, concerts, street fairs, traffic details and in emergency situations such as severe weather events.

Who volunteers?

Civic-minded Garden City Residents who want to make a difference by assisting their local police department. Many of the past and present members of the Special Police have been individuals interested in law enforcement careers.  Volunteering as a Special Police Officer can be beneficial to persons considering a career in law enforcement; two volunteers have already become proud members of other police departments.

What are the requirements? 
 
  •  A United States Citizen
   •  At least 18 years of age
   •  Be in good overall health
   •  A resident of Garden City
   •  Of good moral character
   •  No criminal record
   •  A valid New York State Driver’s License
   •  Complete a background check
   •  Must comply with Zero Tolerance Department drug policy
